Harris Hill Ski Jump Competition

Very Exciting and Comfortably Attended…

Why Fly to Innsbruck, Austria to Watch World Cup Ski Jumping…

True Ski Jumping originated in Morgedal, Norway. Olaf Rye, a Norwegian lieutenant, was the first known ski jumper. In 1809, he launched himself 9.5 meters (10 yards) in the air in front of an audience of other soldiers.

Harris Hill Ski Jump Competition • Brattleboro, Vermont

The Harris Hill Ski Jumping Competition is next weekend, February 17-18, 2024. The competition offers spectators an opportunity to experience the Olympic sport of ski jumping up close in all its breathtaking, heart-stopping glory—complete with distant ringing cow bells make it seem like you’re in Austria for the day! This long-standing, two-day Brattleboro tradition is held on New England’s only Olympic-size, 90-meter hill.

Classic Soup and Sandwich

This time-honored lunch combination is exactly what you need on those snowy cold Vermont days… Timeless Creamy Campbell’s Tomato Soup and a Grilled Cheese Sandwich, on white bread, which should go without saying. Somehow, this was always in the weekend lunch rotation in those early years… an absolute lunch favorite in the 60s & 70s—I’m not so sure about today. And, remember that famous “M’m! M’m Good!” jingle—Campbell’s began radio advertising with that tune in 1931…

Maple Open House Weekend

Gathering Sap from Sugar Trees…

The maple syrup process is absolutely spellbinding—and, if you’ve never seen “the syrup” being made, now’s your chance!

Join us for Maple Open House Weekend—Vermont goes all out to celebrate the first crop of the season when Vermont Maple sugar makers open their doors to their sugarhouses. The entire state comes alive – our neighbor makes syrup, another friend taps 10-15 trees and boils his sap in his driveway, and still another has 15,000 trees tapped on 200 acres! In just a few weeks the sap will begin flowing by gravity, aided by vacuum through a network tubing which carries the sap downhill to the sugarhouses. The volume of sap flowing into the sugarhouses can only be compared to a raging torrent of water – the entire process is incredible to witness! It takes 40-50 gallons of sap to make one gallon of syrup!

Opening Day

Major League Baseball is scheduled to open the 2023 regular season this week on Thursday, March 30. What’s special about opening day this year is that all 30 teams are scheduled to play on Opening Day, which will be the first time since 1968 that every MLB team starts the season on the same day. Two notable highlights of the 2023 schedule include the All-Star Game in Seattle on July 11, a two-game series between the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs at London Stadium on June 24-25.
