Best Hiking Trails in Vermont 15 Nearby Pond Mountain Inn

You can find beautiful Hiking trails in Vermont with 10-15 nearby Pond Mountain Inn bed and breakfast. Our favorite is Haystack Mountain, just ten minutes away!

Take in the awesome views of what the locals call Three Sisters, Haystack, Middle and Bald Mountains. In 2012 the summit of Haystack was conserved by a local group, Friends of Haystack. This summit at 1,919 feet offers views of New York, Mettowee Valley and Mount Equinox, Manchester. The photo above is Mount Equinox.

We have a list for you to choose from for short walking trails or a longer adventure. Just let us know….

Discover Nature and Wildlife At The Vermont Institute of Natural Sciences in Quechee Vermont

The Vermont Institute of Natural Sciences located at Quechee, Vermont is extraordinary!

The VINS (Vermont Institute of Natural Science ) is a nonprofit environmental education, avian rehabilitation and research organization supported by members.

We spent a half day at their incredible 47 acre campus which is open year round, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. It offers “state-of-the-art raptor enclosures, exhibit spaces, classrooms, and interpretive nature trails”, and a beautiful Forest Canopy Walk.

Breathtaking Views From Mount Equinox Vermont

Mount Equinox, elevation 3,848 feet is thirty minutes south of Pond Mountain Inn. Located in Manchester, Mt. Equinox offers a great half day excursion. Stunning views can be found along the hiking trails or alongside the Skyline Drive – many of our guests have captured similar views, but few as glorious. “The summit offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Green, White, Adirondack, Berkshire and Taconic mountain ranges.” My guess is that you can see over one hundred miles in every direction!

This spectacular photograph was sent to us a few years ago, courtesy of Karen Roche at VIP Leisure Travel. She and a friend were was staying at our bed & breakfast last summer. They were looking for a half-day nature activity that captured the essence of Vermont – after seeing this picture I think they found what makes Vermont so incredibly special.

Thank you Karen for capturing quintessential Vermont for everyone to appreciate!

Incredible Mountain Views While Snowshoeing in Vermont

The serenity and peacefulness of snowshoeing is second to the natural beauty always on display in every small town in Vermont. As we walked through the woods we occasionally stopped to examine each animal footprint – we saw deer tracks, fox and where a bird of prey may have found a late afternoon snack. As we approached the top of the ridge a large open field came into view with a distant tree line and the magnificent Taconic Mountain Range further off in the distance. A spectacular day spent with nature only thirty minutes from Pond Mountain Inn.

Our Hike at the Lewis Deane Nature Preserve Vermont

Many of us are already talking about an early spring after the recent snowfall and warmer temperatures forecasted this week. Sacrilegious yes, given there’s likely two winter months left; however it gave pause and a thought of a hike I took last summer not far from the inn. The Lewis Deane Nature Preserve, an 85-acre forest located on St. Catherine Mountain is just over one mile north of Pond Mountain Inn. Last summer, together with two guests, we enjoyed this moderate twenty-five minute one-way hike to the top — however, there’s a slightly longer more leisurely option to the mountain’s summit. I elected the more aggressive route up the mountain, which I had no difficulty ascending; however after my third knee surgery two years ago maybe I’ll think about taking the easier path back to base next time – the descent was tough on the knees. Once we reached the top we were completely awestruck with the picture postcard mountain views. My photograph certainly suggests that this is a “must do” again this spring / summer.
