Another Fun Day in Vermont

Just a 30 minute drive from Pond Mountain Inn, this General Store sign in Benson, Vermont just makes us laugh each time we drive past… so we finally stopped to snap a quick photo. Not quite a Norman Rockwell painting nor is on any country store A-list, but it exemplifies Vermont life and the village culture that not only exists today, but still thrives in many of the 251 towns and villages.

The Champagne Salon Inspired by Dom Pérignon

Looking for something a little different that indulges your senses? We offer this suggestion… The new Dom Pérignon Salon, the only one of its kind sanctioned by the legendary champagne house with a choice of indoor or outdoor spaces. Experience all three Dom Pérignon offerings with D’Artagnan’s Ossetra Malossol Caviar. The Blantyre property and exclusive Dom Pérignon experience ia a justified extravagance! This single-destination day trip is only about two hours from Pond Mountain Inn, however why not combine this trip with a visit to The Clark Museum in Williamstown, Massachusetts? The Clark is one of the most respected museums in the world.

Our guests hit the Revolutionary War trifecta last week; Benningtonm, Saratoga and Fort Ticonderoga! However, “Fort Ticonderoga was clearly the highlight of their vacation. The Mettawee River Known For Fly Fishing Rapids and Kayaking

Just down the road from Pond Mountain Inn is a tributary of Lake Champlain, the Mettawee River… the water is the most amazing color green that the camera barely captures.  The river begins in the Green Mountains near Wells, Vermont and flows for sixteen miles into eastern New York and passes the town of Granville, NY. It is known for great fly fishing, rapids and kayaking.

Tour President Calvin Coolidge Historic Homestead Plymouth Notch Vermont

Calvin Coolidge was born 1872 across the street from the homestead in a house attached to his fathers general store at Plymouth Notch, Plymouth, VT. The homestead was purchased four years later by Calvin’s father Colonel John Coolidge in which he repaired and added a few additions to this one and a half story farmhouse connected to the barn and was a typical New England style set up with the big house, little house, back house and barn. President Coolidge would live in this house until he went away to college 1887 -1895.

On August 3, 1923 Calvin Coolidge was inaugurated the 30th President of the United States. In the following years he would return to the homestead for vacations. He would reside in Northampton until his sudden death at the age of 60 in 1933. The homestead was willed to his only surviving son, John and at his mothers suggestion he donated the house complete with furnishings to the State of Vermont, who in turn opened it to the public. The appearance today is almost the same as the night of the inauguration. President Coolidge, his wife Grace and their two sons, Calvin Jr and John rest at the Notch Cemetery with four generations of his family.

The tour for this State Historic Site is open daily from May to October 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m… and it’s great to wander around this 19th century village even in the winter! Only a little over an hour from Pond Mountain Inn.
